The latest report is out on stolen cars and trucks, and as usual, there’s good news and bad news.
The bad news is, there are still a lot of car thieves out there.
The good news, they aren’t having as much success.
There’s probably nothing more frustrating than walking out to the parking lot, and finding your car has been stolen.
But what gets stolen might surprise you.
If it were you or me, we night think a thief would go for this nice, fancy Lexus GS I’m driving for this week’s road test. But that’s not what they’re looking for. More like an old Chevy pickup.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau list for the U.S. is a who’s who of popular cars and trucks from as long as two decades ago.
And for Texas, well, just move the trucks up the list.
Parts is the biggest reason.
But sometimes it’s just a crime of opportunity.
Last year in Texas, 50% of the vehicles stolen had the keys in them.
But new technology makes it tougher to snatch the newer cars.
And the statistics are getting better.
For the last 8 years, we’ve been on a decline. And this year, we had fewer thefts than there have been since 1967.
