Houston mayor agrees to put more Ike funds toward houses

Mayor prompted by last-minute lobbying by neighborhood activists
Houston — The Houston Chronicle is reporting; Mayor Annise Parker, prompted by last-minute lobbying by neighborhood activists, has agreed to reverse course and give most of a second round of Hurricane Ike housing money to repair single-family homes rather than apartments.
Activists cheered the Tuesday evening agreement with Parker, which still must be approved by City Council before being submitted to the state's General Land Office by Friday. Council will consider the funding plan Wednesday.
