Houston mayor avoids runoff

Parker wins second term
Houston — The Houston Chronicle is reporting; Annise D. Parker won a second term Tuesday as mayor of the nation's fourth-largest city, narrowly avoiding a runoff despite having no well-funded or well-known opponents and spending $2.3 million to promote herself to Houston voters this year.
Two of her fellow incumbents on City Council will have to defend their seats again next month in runoff elections. Councilwoman Jolanda Jones will go to her third straight runoff for the At-Large Position 5 seat. Chiropractor Jack Christie will again challenge her one on one on Dec. 10.
