Houston Metro bus split; driver killed

Houston, TX — The driver of an out-of-service Houston Metro bus died this morning after he collided with a dump truck and slammed into a pillar at a railroad overpass on Texas 288 near McGregor.
The driver, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
An employee since 2008, the driver was going to a Metro facility after finishing his shift.
The two-vehicle crash occurred on southbound 288 at about 8:30 a.m., according to Metro officials.
The bus was traveling in the inside lane when it appeared to veer slightly into the middle lane of traffic and collided with the dump truck, said Metro officials. The bus split in half.
