How to prevent rodents from getting into your air conditioning vents
Tyler TX (KETK) — It's starting to feel a lot like summer.
And it's time we start cranking up the AC.
But, sometimes the air might not turn on.
We found out a lot of the time is because rodents get stuck in the air conditioning vents.
Owner of Aire Service air conditioning and heating, Bobby Lynn, says this is the time when most people call about their air conditioning not working.
Lynn says he also gets calls from people saying there is a weird odor coming through the air conditioning system.
He says this smell can be from a decaying rodent.
And if you don't clean the system out, the rodents can spread diseases through the vents.
It can be a serious issue for those with allergies or asthma.
Lynn says the best way to prevent this is by being proactive and having your system inspected every year.
"If you have the decay of the animal in your duct system in the summertime you use that air flowing through there and it's flowing right through the dead animal it's not a healthy environment," said Lynn.
Lynn also says debris, hairballs and other items can clog your duct system and cause it to break or smell.
