As quail hunting season is about to kick off, we're reminded that the sport has had a rough time over the last few years...

And in East Texas, it's been pretty much been a dead end for the last 25 years!

But a hunting resort in Wood County is hoping to change that.

Hidden Lakes Hunting Resort in Yantis has 550 acres of land prime for hunting game bird.

And yes...you can hunt quail there.

Chord Burnett tells KETK, they plant around 17 miles of sorghum...a natural grain for the birds.

They raise around 10,000 quail a year...and they are hoping it will begin to bring the population back to the Piney Woods.

Burnett says statewide, the past several years have been rough due to factors like fire ants and extreme drought, but he hopes this year will be a little better.

Hidden Lakes is located in Yantis on County Road 1912.  Click here to visit their website.
