Longview, TX — Thousands of motorists pass through Longview each day on Interstate 20, and Longview Mayor Jay Dean wants to find a way to draw more of them into the city.

Dean is scheduled to discuss creation of a mayor’s task force to plan improvements to the I-20 corridor during tonight’s regular City Council meeting.

“Interstate 20 is an almost untapped resource for the city of Longview,” Dean said. “With the traffic count that exists on Interstate 20, if we were able to draw some significant portion of that traffic to Longview it would be organic growth for Longview.”

Dean acknowledged work has been done on Texas 149 near where it meets Interstate 20 in south Longview and pointed to the construction of Walmart on Estes Parkway as a sign of the growth that draw those who pass by.
