Union City,IN (WTHR) — An eight-year-old Indiana boy died in a freak accident earlier this week after being hit by a ball at baseball practice.
The family is struggling to do deal with the devastating loss.
"He just fell to the ground and I mean, I even yelled at him to get up." said Erick Williams.
Tuesday, Erick and Georgiana Williams' son, Dylan, went into cardiac arrest after being hit by a baseball at baseball practice on Union City's baseball field.
Erick was helping coach his son who was part of an All Star team set to play in a tournament this weekend.
"He never...he never came to for the time that I tried to get him up, he never came to. I couldn't even help. I couldn't even help him. One of our dads tried, but there was nothing we could do."
On Wednesday, July 17, Dylan's parents took him off life support at Riley Hospital for Children but not before they donated several of his organs.
"That's what he would have wanted. He's a great kid," said Erick.
At this time the family doctor says they have no answers for their questions.
"They're at a loss. They said one in a 10 million or something like that is what the likelihood and they didn't know how to explain it to us. They didn't know," said Williams.
The family says that Dylan wouldn't want his teammates asking such questions but to instead focus on the weekend's game.
"He would have told 'em, 'You play.' He loved baseball." said Williams.
Dylan's father said that he was a wonderful young man and a hero.
"And he'll always be a hero and no one will ever forget him. We'll make sure of that."
And the Williamses want other parents to know to not take a second of time with your kids for granted.
"Hug your kids tighter. Give 'em kisses and tell 'em you love 'em that much more, cause you never know, anything like this could happen in a moment's notice," said mother, Georgiana Williams.
The local coroner said Dylan died of complications from blunt force trauma to the neck.
The family is currently in the process of making funeral arrangements.
