Infectious disease specialist joins UT Health Northeast

Infectious disease specialist Jeana Benwill, MD, has joined the faculty of UT Health Northeast.

Dr. Benwill, an assistant professor of medicine, is board certified in internal medicine. She is an expert in infectious diseases of all kinds. Her specialty is in treating infections caused by mycobacteria, microscopic organisms in the soil that sometimes cause serious lung disease.

She comes to UT Health after finishing an infectious disease fellowship at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where she also completed a residency in internal medicine.

In addition, Dr. Benwill served a rotating fellowship at National Jewish Health in Denver, Colo. She studied the causes, distribution, and control of infectious diseases in Peru and worked at a hospital in Kenya.

Dr. Benwill received the Don W. Powell, MD, Award for Excellence in Internal Medicine Residency at UTMB. She graduated from the Ross University School of Medicine with High Honors.
