Longview’s newest school doubled enrollment heading into it’s sophomore year, prompting the hiring of four new teachers and the opening of an additional grade.

The UT Tyler Longview Innovation Academy, which begins with third grade students and will expand to serve a seventh grade class, intends to continue adding a grade each year through 12th grade, according to Van Patterson, the director of the UT Tyler Longview University Center.

Since last year enrollment at the charter school has increased from 60 to 120 students,” said Eli Crow, UT Tyler’s Innovation Academy superintendent of schools. “To accommodate this growth we have also added four additional instructors, all of whom are from the city of Longview.”

The new instructors are Cindy Mosley, Melissa Hoskins, Lizzie Baker and Jessica Eubank, Patterson said in a statement.

The Innovation Academy uses a project-based learning model which focuses on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
