Iowa Allows Gay Marriage

April 4, 2009 - 4:42pm

TYLER - Another state has legalized gay marriage.

The Iowa Supreme Court ruled Friday the state's ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional because it violates the rights of gays and lesbians.

While gay marriage advocates celebrated, those opposing the ruling called on their elected leaders to reverse the decision.

We asked Congressman Louie Gohmert, who represents East Texas, what he thought of the state's decision.

"Even back to the earliest city-states when a nation begins to say that a relationship between two men and two women sexually is normal then their normally close to the end of their existence," Mr. Gohmert says.

Court officials say it will take 21 days for the ruling to be considered final.
