Tyler — It was time to sign.
The Longview Lobos had eight players sign on National Signing Day, six in football and two in soccer.
Longview is sending football players to TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Trinity Valley and Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
Longview receiver Dorian Leonard signed with the Longhorns.
"I don't have to worry about any other coaches coming at me," Leonard said. "It's good to get the recruiting process out of the way."
Longview safety Travin Howard signed with the Horned Frogs.
"It's a dream come true," Howard said. "I feel TCU is the school for me."
John Tyler had six Lions sign.
JT coach Ricklan Holmes tells his players what he was told by Hall of Fame coach Tom Osborne.
"You've got to make sure to go to a school that fits you, not your family, not your mom or your daddy, not your sister or brother or the people that live down the street," Holmes said. "You've got to find a school that will fit you because you're going to be the one who's going to be there four to five years on the football field, walking around campus and going to class."
Tyler Lee had eight players sign, five guys and three gals.
Abby Holbrook ran cross country for the Red Raiders. She signed with West Point.
"Six months ago, if somebody were to tell me I'm going to West Point, I wouldn't have believed them," Holbrook said. "It's an opportunity that there was no way I could pass it up."
The Whitehouse Wildcats had nine players sign.
Patrick Mahomes will play football at Texas Tech unless he goes pro in baseball.
"I'm ready to go to Texas Tech and play football. I don't want my football career to come to an end," Mahomes said. "We'll see when baseball comes around what the decision will be then. But as of right now, I'm glad to be a Red Raider."
The Chapel Hill Bulldogs had five players sign. Two of them will play at Louisiana-Monroe.
Quarterback Andrew Black will play for Henderson State.
Running back Joseph Clark signed with Texas Tech.
Lineman Keith Minor signed with Cincinnati.
