It's about that time to fire up the grill!

The sun is out and the grill is hot.

This isn't surprising at all but 62% of Americans own a grill.

It's a summer tradition and we have the scoop on how you can preserve your grill and keep yourself safe while cooking.

From spring until the Fourth of July, propane, natural gas, and charcoal grills are selling like crazy.

"I think just the mild climate we've had and this spring up until last week the weather has been great now the heats here so people kind of slow down a little bit,"' said Don's Appliances Manager Brian Thedford.

Thedford says if you're using a gas grill, make sure your igniters work.

Thedford says when igniters don't work, people usually stick a lighter up in the grill.

And if they leave the gas on for to long, it causes a little explosion.

"If you have to do that and you don't have your igniters fixed right when you turn your gas on to that burner you have that lighter next to it so when that gas comes out of that burner it will start up immediately without an explosion," said Thedford.

Once your bbqing is over, Thedford says do not clean your grill with chemical products.

"They recommend just getting it up to a high temperature and letting it run for about 20 minutes without anything on it and that burns off any grease left from other food and then just taking a wire brush and scraping off the grease," said Thedford.
