It's almost that time again, in just a few short weeks, public pools and splash pads will open, and people will have a very comfortable option to get away from the hot summer heat.

Get your goggles and your floaters ready. A popular way to dodge the hot Texas sun is, go for a dip.

Public pools in Tyler open on June 1st, Longview pools open June 8TH. Some private and apartment pools are already open. And the pool business has been busy.

Lance Wiley from Trinity Village Pools and Spa says, "We've been pretty busy we've had a lot of people that have come in to get their water tested.” He's been working overtime gearing up for the summer time swim season. Wiley says, “I get a lot of hours, 60 hours a week almost."

Brenda Elrod, environmental health director at north east public health district says; its pool inspection time. And they inspect all 216 public pools, spas and splash pads in Smith County. Elrod says, “When swim season gets close, then we start looking at them to make sure the water chemistry is correct, that they have their fencing up correctly that they have their safety equipment on hand."

Memorial day is May 27th, and many pools open then or shortly after, some even before.

Some wise advice before you dive in, Elrod says, “That's also the day you get a lot of sunburn so you might want to think about some sun protector."
Wiley says, “Don't forget your floaties."

Canton/Shereveport: Splash Kingdom opens May 25th at 11 a.m.
