Jack Stallard is the Sports Editor of the Longview News-Journal.

He votes in the statewide high school football poll.

He was asked by KETK Sports Director Danny Elzner about this year's preseason poll.

Stallard said...

"I'm honored to be a voting member of this high school football poll. No surprises here.

Lots of East Texas teams as usual.

In 5A, the Longview Lobos are ranked #3. I picked them second.

John Tyler is #8. I picked them sixth.

This will be a very good Longview football team and a very good John Tyler football team.

Longview will scrimmage #2 Ennis. The Lobos will play John Tyler later in the season. Longview is one spot ahead of A&M Consolidated, which knocked Longview out of the playoffs last year.

In 4A, Carthage is ranked #4. Gilmer and Kilgore are tied at #8. Chapel Hill, Gladewater and Tatum all received votes.

Carthage, Kilgore and Chapel Hill are all in the same district. It's going to be a lot of fun in Class 4A. Looking for a great season in East Texas."
