Jack Stallard is the Sports Editor of the Longview News-Journal.

Kilgore will play Carthage Friday at noon at AT&T Stadium for the state championship.

KETK Sports Director Danny Elzner asked him about the unbeaten Kilgore Bulldogs.

Stallard said, "This team was on a mission. They got close last year. They lost in the semifinals. They opened this season with high expectations. From day one they believed they were going to play in the state championship game. They steam rolled teams all year long. They were tested twice. They beat a very good Gilmer team to win the district championship. Once they beat Gilmer there was no doubt that they were going to roll through the playoffs. That's what they've done."

What about Carthage?

Stallard said, "They started the year ranked first. They lost in the semifinals last year. There's a lot of experience on the coaching staff. You've been to this game three times since 2008. Carthage has an explosive offense. Blake Bogenschutz at quarterback, Tee Goree at receiver and Tevin Pipkin at running back. Those are the triplets. They also play good defense. This is going to be a classic matchup."
