Jacksonville, TX — A historic church in Jacksonville struggles to stay open. After 165 years of serving the community... they are losing church members.
It has been pretty quiet on Sunday's at the Cove Springs Methodist Church, and the church needs the community's support.
The cove springs methodist church has been active for 156 years.
George W. Powell, Treasurer of the church, has been a member for 3 years and his family have been members of 30 years.
This church has been struggling to stay open since Pastor Dan Middleton who was fighting cancer had past away.. a little over a month ago. He was preacher for 34 years.
The Powell family are taking care of the church finances. George says, without enough members, there are not enough donations.
Members who host barbeque's and garage sales to raise money for the church are no longer members.
Every day... before George walks out the door of the church, he says to himself..."Life isn't about waiting for the storm to past, it's about learning how to dance in the rain."
The Powell family are doing everything they can to keep the church open, they need members and donations.
George says, it's no for him, it's for God.

please capitalize "God"
Let this building close - it is not the church, the people are. This person who leads the congregation should get out and preach the gospel - not go begging on TV. Church groups are to support themselves except in the misssion fields. George Powell, close the doors, go get a real job and share the gospel with your co-workers.
If the church only supported Dan Middleton, then it was following the wrong leader. SHUT 'ER DOWN
Goes to show you that the members that left were not true belivers in Jesus Christ but had put their faith in Pastor Dan Middleton . If they are true Christians they will return to this Church and support it, and help George W. Powell. Jesus will send them a new Pastor that will preach the word of GOD, which may be just what these people do not want to hear. Too many churches these days are nothing more than Social Clubs.
