Jacksonville College wanted to increase campus safety, and allow employees to carry guns on campus. That's when they hired chief of security Mike Morse, and began a security agency on campus. Morse is now teaching security officer certification, and concealed handgun classes. "We had a desire to provide courses to the community, and one of the needs we heard was handgun licenses," said Mike Smith, Jacksonville College president.

"There's been quite a bit of interest, some of them have been disappointed because they haven't been able to get into the class, but we're going to have more classes for them," said Morse. Both classes are available to the students, teachers, and entire community. Smith sees this as a great way to bring in people to the campus, and said "we're just excited about the growth of Jacksonville College, and this is just one of what we hope in the future, many classes we're able to offer here that will tie the community to the college."

Morse thinks it's a great way to inform East Texans about gun safety and self defense. He said, "in todays world you need to be able to step up and protect yourself and your family, and people around you if the need arises."  That's why they are willing to work around anyone's schedule, and if there's a group of people interested Morse will come to you.
