Smith County Commissioners approve jail proposal

TYLER- After many months of proposals and changes, the Smith County Commissioners Court have approved a plan for a new jail and justice center.

In a meeting Monday morning, commissioners gave the green light for a 125-million dollar jail facility in downtown tyler.

The facility, will consist of a new jail housing tower, a housing area for low-risk inmates, and a building that will connect to the current courthouse annex.

Also in the approved plan, is the purchase of property for a parking facility.

The 125-million dollar bond proposal, will be voted on in the November 6th election.
