Smith County Commissioners met Monday morning to vote on the number of years they'll finance the proposed new jail.

Commissioners were briefed on the pros and cons of both 20 and 25 years financing plans...then made their decision.

By a count of 4 to 1, the court voted in favor of the 25 year plan.

Commissioners say if financed over the 25 years, there'll be a 6.6 cent tax to pay for the bond.

For a one hundred thousand dollar home that amounts to 66 dollars more.
