Tyler, TX — James Calvert is charged with killing his ex-wife, Jelena Sriraman. Court documents show the 30 year old and Calvert were recently in court for a custody hearing.
He describes their estranged relationship and what the ex-couple was going through.
Jelena Sriraman contacted, attorney, Cameron Castleberry to modify a 2010 custody order because she met someone, would soon re-marry, and would like to relocate to Houston because her fiance had a great job opportunity.
"We filed a suit to extend the geographical restriction up to 250 miles to include Houston," says Cameron Castleberry."
Castleberry tells KETK, since January they have had numerous hearings, depositions, and they went to mediation to try to settle the case.
Castleberry says, Jelena and James couldn't come to an agreement.
In October, Jelena and James had a jury trial.
"The best outcome for Jelena was going to to a jury ask them to decide whether or not she should be allowed to move," says Cameron Castleberry.
"They ended up giving us 500 miles and I think that, the extra 250 miles really put a damper on his mood," says Cameron Castleberry.
Castleberry tells KETK, since the verdict came back in her favor she's been in the best mood.
"So when you spoke to her yesterday morning on the phone describe her state, her emotion, did she feel nervous, was she upset? No she was very excited," says Cameron Castleberry.
Castleberry adds, she was good mom and was looking forward to her kids going trick-or-treating.
