John David Crow, who once offered Manziel some heady advice, turns 79 today
College Station — I first heard about running back John David Crow while growing up in South Montgomery County from my father, who’s the same age as Crow and who always admired Crow’s success story as Texas A&M’s first Heisman Trophy winner in 1957.
So it was pretty neat to get to know Crow over the years as an A&M beat writer, and he was Chapter 5 in my book Game of My Life: 25 Stories of Aggies Football. Crow turns 79 today, and I had the privilege in December 2012 to set up the first meeting between Crow and Johnny Manziel, days before the latter was named the Aggies’ second Heisman winner.
