September 23, 2009 - 11:53am
TYLER—Tyler police say a stabbing Wednesday at an East Texas high school has left one teacher dead.
Tyler Police Department Public Information Officer, Don Martin, says police responded to a call around 9 a.m. Wednesday at John Tyler High School in Tyler. Police say special education teacher, Todd Henry, 52, was stabbed and killed.
Officer Martin says a student was taken into custody following the attack.
John Tyler went on lockdown for about two hours before students were released from school for the day.
John Tyler High School's superintendent is scheduled to hold a press conference Tuesday afternoon. KETK will bring you full coverage of the incident on KETK News at 5 and 6.

First:
God Bless Todd Henry and Family.
Second:
I grew up going to High School in the 60s
We had much much less crime then. The main reason is resonsibility. Watching the students on TV. They are dressed very very bad. We had to tuck our shirt into our pants. We could not wear anything writen on them.
Third:
Comments from Parents on TV.
Made me very upset. They complain about Tyler High School security alot. There first comment should have been about Todd Henry and Family.
Last:
This is not a perfect world. I believe time is getting close to a end-just like 90% of older people believe in it.

2 months agoI'm wondering just how much difference changing their clothes would make. You think making them tuck in their shirts is going to keep them from stabbing someone or getting in a fight?

2 months agoThe new admin at TISD has been really messing up. They have fired people and made cuts they call necessary, but are meanwhile hiring expensive administrators. They've taken away programs that keep kids busy and happy and hands-on. Worst of all, they segregate (not just racially) the schools instead of trying to keep them heterogenous - By the time our kids get through middle school, they've either been in the "good" schools their whole lives or the "bad" schools. We only have 2 high schools but we have 27 brand new elementary schools. JT has been notorious as the "bad" high school for MANY years. Why hasn't anyone sought to change this by changing the way the students at the two high schools are dispersed and by building more high schools? Why has this problem been ignored, pushed aside and left to teachers and administrators at JT who are constantly treated like crap by higher-ups and looked down on for where they work?
Citizens need to start waking up and taking action. We've already watched by the wayside as this new TISD administration has screwed-up project after project. Now, they've revealed themselves to be completely inadequate to even protect our students and teachers from harm.

2 months agoMy prayers go out to the family and friends of this teacher and if the problems were present before this incident then something should have been done before then. As far as more security, then yes, they need it, and I agree that students should be held and act responsible for themselves, but if they're not getting taught that at home by the parents, then who in the h*** is teaching these kids to act like this? If the majority of the kids act like criminals, then treat them like criminals.

2 months agothis information about him breakin up a fight is false. the student is also said to be special ed. this could have happened anywhere, anytime. unless you actually attend john tyler or have children attending the school, please don't judge, and keep the henry family, and the whole jt enviroment in your prayers.

2 months agoTODAY I'M NOT AT ALL PROUD OF TYLER, THIS IS JUST ANOTHER CASE OF THE DETERIORATION OF TYLER, TX. IT WILL ONLY GET WORST WITH THE WEAK LEADERSHIP THAT HAS INFILTRATED OUR SYSTEMS IN SMITH COUNTY AND THE LACK OF PARENTAL GUIDANCE IN OUR HOMES.

2 months agoMr. Henry and his family will be in my prayers tonight as well as the student who did this along with his family. John Tyler was my high school years ago and I just could not believe what happened there when I heard the news this morning. Its really just plain sad. We need to come together as a community and as American citizens and take our country and our schools back. We have let a small group of people dictate what the majority of us do for far too long!!!!! We no longer have discipline or God/Prayer in our schools and we are now starting to see the results. I fear it will only get worse if the WHOLE community does not come together soon !!.
