Josh Hamilton homers
Rangers take lead
UNDATED (AP) - The American League Championship Series has begun
in Arlington, Texas, where the Rangers led the New York Yankees 3-0
through 1 1/2 innings.
The Rangers struck early as Josh Hamilton clubbed a three-run
homer off CC Sabathia in the bottom of the first.
Sabathia threw 36 pitches in the opening inning.
Rangers starter C.J. Wilson was perfect through two innings.
The Yankees haven't played since Saturday, when they wrapped up
a three-game sweep of Minnesota in the Division Series. The Rangers
needed five games to knock out Tampa Bay and win a playoff series
for the first time in club history.
Sabathia was 21-7 during the regular season, allowing one run
over six innings during his lone start versus Texas.
The Rangers countered with 15-game winner C.J. Wilson, who
pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings of a Game-2 victory against the Rays
last Thursday. Wilson is 0-1 with a 5.65 ERA in three starts versus
the Yankees this year.
