An Angelina County Judge has ruled an East Texas baby injured last week can be turned over to friends of the family involved.

County Court at Law 2 Judge Derek C. Flournoy allowed the transfer request from the parents Monday morning. The 2-month-old girl will be released to CPS and placed into a Temporary Managing Conservatorship (TMC), according to Child Protective Services.

A TMC allows a child to be cared for by another guardian, however, CPS will follow the progress of the infant and assure she receives proper treatment. The order gave permission for church friends of the maternal grandparents to house the baby.

The infant will be released to CPS Monday afternoon and handed over to the new guardians once it is approved the home is a appropriate.

The Hudson Police Department and CPS continue to investigate how the child was injured and have not yet released details surrounding the baby's injury. The infant was reportedly suffering from brain bleed following an incident on Thursday, March 27.

CPS spokeswoman Shari Pulliam said the baby is expected to fully recover from her injuries.

The parents have been identified as Amber Lewis, 18, and Andrew Lewis, 19. Authorities have not announced any charges in the case.
