CNN — Katherine Heigl may soon return to the small screen.
The former "Grey's Anatomy" star, who's been busy with movies since she left the ABC medical drama in 2010, is set to executive produce and star in a new pilot being developed at NBC.
Variety reports that Heigl, 34, will play a powerful CIA analyst who becomes the president's top debriefing agent on delicate national and global affairs. THR notes that the show's being described as "Scandal" meets "The West Wing."
The hour-long drama will be written by Alexi Hawley ("Body of Proof," "Castle"), and he'll produce alongside Heigl, the star's mother, Nancy Heigl, Rodney Faraon, Julia Franz, Henry Crumpton and Robert Simonds.
“The story is not only compelling and intelligent but a look behind the curtain at the CIA we haven’t seen before in film or TV,” Heigl said in a statement. “NBC has been a true partner in their passion and support for the show that we’ve dreamed of making, and I could not be happier about joining forces with them. Together, with our brilliant writer Alexi Hawley, I believe we are going to make great television!”
