Dr. Bill Holda is pleased to announce that Dr. Mike Jenkins, KC’s Vice President of Student Development, has been awarded “The Carl M. ‘Cheesie’ Nelson Administrative Leadership Award.”

Each year the Texas Association of Community Colleges recognizes an outstanding administrator from one of its 50 community college districts.

“Dr. Mike Jenkins was selected from a highly competitive pool of applicants for this award. The selection committee was impressed not only with the breadth of his experience and contribution to the community college environment, but also with the depth of his community service and servant leadership,” Holda said. “He is very deserving and is a credit to Kilgore College and to the community colleges in Texas.”

According to TACC’s website, the award “celebrates the importance of administrative leadership at Texas community colleges by recognizing a vice president, dean or chancellor who has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities.”

Jenkins received a $1,500 cash stipend and travel expenses for two persons to attend the annual summer conference of the TACC where he was presented the award July 10 in Galveston.

Nominations for the award were reviewed and judged by a panel of three external judges.

Judges were Melissa Henderson with Educate Texas; Elizabeth Putoff with ICUT; and Dr. Alan Runge, Provost of Concord College.
