KC will offer two early childhood education workshops in February

Kilgore College Workforce Development will offer two early childhood education workshops in February.

The eight-hour courses are set for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays in KC’s Bert E. Woodruff Adult Education Center in Kilgore.

The cost is $35 for each and continuing education units will be awarded.

“Butterflies and Bugs” will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, designed to help childcare providers develop a month of activities based on the spring season. Instructor will be Theresa Rowe, who owned The Rowe Boat Early Childhood Learning Center in Longview for 10 years. The course contains hands-on exercises for children with an emphasis on fun.

“More Than Nursery Rhymes” will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25. This workshop will offer strategies to enhance vocabulary, comprehension and other literacy skills through the use of nursery rhymes. Instructor Jo Beth Reeves has a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and was a kindergarten teacher for 30 years.

Early childhood workshops will be held once a month on Saturdays from March through August.

Topics will include Literacy Skills for the Very Young, Summer Plans, Math for Little Learners, Overview for Summer Help, Literacy Through Music and Back to School.
