Keep Tyler Beautiful, the Wesley Foundation Student Ministry at Tyler Junior College and the University of Texas at Tyler will be joining forces for another Trash Mob litter clean-up in Tyler on Tuesday, May 15 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The Trash Mob, formed in July 2011, was designed after the popular Flash Mob social media phenomenon featuring organized groups gathering in public places for the purpose of bringing joy to others – typically through music and dance. The difference is that this program has groups of students come together at public parks and other public gathering places to pick up trash in a brief, concentrated effort.

Sunny Farley, Wesley Foundation director, said students at the Methodist student ministry formed Flash Mob missions last summer as a way of living out their Christian faith on campus and beyond. Rev. Farley explained that cleaning up areas in Tyler demonstrates the students’ commitment to taking care of the earth and encourages others to do the same.

Keep Tyler Beautiful Board Chair Phyllis Carlyle said that the board is wholeheartedly behind the effort and enthusiastic about their partnership.

“We are glad to have the opportunity to work with these students as they give back to the Tyler community,” Ms. Carlyle said. “Keep Tyler Beautiful hopes that events like this will show others that it doesn’t take a lot of effort or time to make a difference.”
