For many people the holidays can be a stressful time of year, with spending money, shopping, checking off the Christmas list, but people should keep in mind what the season is all about.

Chris Pulliam, Senior Pastor at the First Christian Church in Tyler tells us, this time of year is about our relationship with God through Jesus. "The food, family, football and the shopping are all elements of it, but faith is a big part of the season," said Pulliam.

The material things don't bring peace on earth and joy to the world.

We spoke to East Texans about what's important to them during the holiday season.

Michael Lewis, Minister of Tyler says, people need to find time to slow down enough to celebrate the season of the year. "It's not about the gifts, it's not about the hustle and bustle... it's really about finding one's way to the Mosiah," said Lewis.

"Being Spiritual is the most important part of the holidays, it's really the center of it," said Lloyd Kraus of Tyler.

"It's really more about spending time with the family, and it's the one time when everyone around the world is coming together for the same cause... the one time," said Pam Gabriel, Owner of Sweet Gourmet.

Staying spiritual during the holiday season can bring joy to one's life.

"Christmas is not always a joyous time of year for certain people, it can be a time of profound sadness especially for those who have gone through grief," said Lewis.

We're told by keeping faith, you'll find the joy, peace, hope and love you're looking for, not in the gifts.

Pulliam says, this season count your blessings.
