Bobby Sanders helped his three children reposition their bait Saturday as his oldest daughter, Melody, 11, reminisced about catching her first “big bass.”
“Daddy, can you help me? (The fish) took my bait,” Brady, 4, said while passing his worm cup.

The first kids fishing day Saturday morning at Lake Gladewater reeled in more than 65 children — some more experienced anglers than others.

“I was about 3 or 4 with my dad at a little pond by my grandpa’s house when I first learned how to fish,” said the elder Sanders, who is from Gladewater.

Northeast District Fisheries Biologist Tim Bister of Texas Parks and Wildlife loaned fishing rods to families for the event to promote outdoor activities among children. Bister came to the lake with his son Travis, 10.
