Kids Invited to Fishing Rodeo and other Summer Recreation Opportunities

The City of Longview Partners in Prevention will host the annual Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Teague Park Lake, 415 American Legion Blvd. The Fishing Rodeo is a simple contest to see who can catch the most fish within a given amount of time. Trophies will be awarded to the first, second, and third place finishers.

Registration for the free event is from 9:30 – 9:55 a.m., the fishing will take place from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m., and the trophies will be awarded at 11:00 a.m. Participants must provide their own fishing equipment.

According to event organizer Keeta King, “The Fishing Rodeo is a fun and recreational outing for kids. With all our work at Partners in Prevention, our goal is to provide opportunities for people to come together as we build a safe, healthy, drug-free community.”

In addition to the Fishing Rodeo, Partners in Prevention is planning several youth recreation opportunities throughout the summer. Classes and activities include Starting New at Golf, Karate, Hip Hop Dance, the Kings of Getting’ Em Outdoor Camp, Xtreme Fitness Get Fit Camp, and Heroes of Tomorrow. Special Instructions: Parents bring their participants to the parking lot behind the PIP Participants must wear boots or tennis shoes. (no flip flops or sandals)
Brief description: The producers and TV personalities of the broadcast, “The King’s of Gettin’ Em” are partnering with the City of Longview Youth Recreation to provide a class that teaches youth in the community about wild life conservation and surviving the great outdoors. Lunch provided

Xtreme Fitness Get Fit Camp
Monday-Friday, June 11-29th
Cost: $50
Time: 2-3 p.m.
Age: 6th-12th grade
Place: The ROC (located at 209 E. South St.)
Special Instructions: Participants will need to bring water, a towel, jump rope and 3lb OR 5 lb weights.
Brief Description: Kids’ Group Fitness focuses on the whole body and teaches on mental fitness as well as physical fitness. The instructor will provide nutritional guidance with healthy snack sessions, in addition to stretching, cardio, and light weight training all while having fun! Bring a friend.

Heroes of Tomorrow
Saturdays, June 23, July 28, Aug. 11
Cost: FREE
Time: 9am –4 pm (lunch provided, 12-1)
Age: 7th-12 grade
Place: LFD raining Center (located at 411 American Legion Blvd)*Limited to 1st 12 students.
Special Instructions: Parents are encouraged to join their child(ren) for a lunch and info session 12-1. (Lunch provided) Please indicate if attending during the time of registration.
Brief Description: Instructors will provide a day of FIRE, FUN, & LEADERSHIP through hands-on activities and lessons taught by members of the Longview Fire Department. From 9 am til noon, topics will pertain to fire, and EMS related topics will be covered from 1pm to 4pm.
