Kids never got enough sleep
If you write about parenting issues long enough you’ll soon discover there’s really nothing new in raising kids. Kids these days are better off than the generation that came before, schools always need more money and any discussion of corporal punishment will include the words ‘I was spanked and I turned out fine’.
Here’s one I hadn’t heard before though: Kids have never, ever gotten enough sleep, and parents and scientists have been wringing their hands over it for centuries.
Researchers at the University of South Australia analyzed sleep research on children in studies dating back a hundred years or more and found there has always been a gap between the amount of time scientists say a kid should sleep and the amount of sleep kids are getting. Their review has been published in the Academy Academy of Pediatrics journal, Pediatrics.
