Kilgore could be making entrance points to the city a little easier on the eyes with regulations for businesses that are located at entry points to the city. The proposed regulations are part of the city's beautification plan.

If approved, the new regulations will clean up and beautify the four entry points or corridors into Kilgore which are:

• State Hwy. 42 from Interstate 20 to Hwy. 31

• Hwy. 31 at the western city limits to its intersection with U.S. Hwy. 259, North to Interstate 20 and south to the railroad overpass

• Industrial Boulevard from the southern city limits to the traffic circle at Houston and Commerce

• Hwy. 135 from the city limits South to the traffic circle.

Businesses located in those "overlap zones" will be required to add additional landscaping, screen their dumpsters and outdoor storage by placing them out of view or behind fencing.

New construction will also have regulations that would require parking lots to be in the back or side of a building and be screened with landscaping or a fence completely covered with vegetation.

Carol Windham, planning and zoning director says, " It's a way to make the area, our corridors, our entry ways..more pleasing as people drive into our city and .. Give a good appearance."

The plan is still in the prelimiary stages, city officials will meet with business owners in the zones next month.
