They might not work out like athletes, but students who attend late registration at Kilgore College know it’s no walk in the park.

Last fall, about 1,200 students enrolled at Kilgore College during the two on-campus late registration days in Kilgore and Longview, according to Staci Martin, registrar.

Students who register early are one step ahead of the pack, and college officials hope to increase those numbers, even as they prepare for the late additions today and Wednesday.

“Last year we went to one day of late registration in the spring. It is a trend with so many registering online,” said Chris Craddock, coordinator of public and sports information.

“We noticed a couple of years ago that more and more students were registering online,” Craddock said. “This has definitely helped reduce the amount of students that wait to register on-campus during late registration; however, the majority of students do still actually enroll on campus.”

Some students apply to college while in high school through Apply Texas.

“The recruitment services department has been proactive by visiting high schools in our service area the last two school years to guide students through the application process,” Craddock said. “We’re meeting with the junior and senior students getting them on the computer – whether they go to Kilgore College or not. Then they’re ahead of the game.”

Trey Hattaway, Kilgore College director of enrollment management and marketing, said regardless of whether students enroll early or late, officials want to work with them.
