The Kilgore College Adult Education Program will hold commencement exercises Friday for more than 60 students who have earned their General Educational Development (GED) diplomas during the past year.

The ceremony is set for 7 p.m. June 14 in Dodson Auditorium on the Kilgore campus and the public is invited to attend.

This year’s graduates include something a bit out of the ordinary—two married couples and two sisters

Dr. Julie Fowler, Executive Dean of KC—Longview, will be the guest speaker.

Victoria Faulk of Pearland, valedictorian, will give the valedictory address. Salutatorian, Kendra Tobey of Longview, will give the welcome.

Special music will be performed by Lasundra Wilson and Pastor Leon Merrill.

The KC Adult Education program, directed by Ms. Bobbie McGee-Benson, is headquartered at KC—Longview, but has 25 other sites in Gregg, Upshur and Rusk counties.

Adult Education meets a variety of student needs including GED preparation, job-training assistance, college preparation, English as a Second Language and general life improvement skills.

This will be the college’s sixteenth annual graduation ceremony for all students who have received their GED diplomas during the past year.

Gladewater: Stacey Walters.

Hawkins: Amy Williams

Henderson: Elizabeth Alsup, Kiera Cameron, Christopher Requena, Satiee Sears and Nita Tirado.

Kilgore: Debora Adams, Justin Adams, Kristy Boykin, Chris Callaway, Angelia Gipson, Corey Jared Mcilwain, Amanda Norment, Angela Shipman and Julio Valdez.

About Dr. Fowler:

Dr. Julie Fowler serves as Executive Dean of KC—Longview, which has grown dramatically under her leadership. Fowler started off as a part time instructor, eventually teaching full-time.

She has also served as coordinator of the Office Technology Program, served as Director of Administrative Services for KC—Longview and served as Dean of KC—Longview.

In 2008, she was named Executive Dean of KC—Longview, which placed her on the college’s executive team.

Fowler has a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University in business, English and secondary education.

She also has a master’s degree in technology from The University of Texas at Tyler and a doctorate degree in higher education from Texas A & M—Commerce.

She has extensive experience in education and has also worked in the construction and design industries.
