Driller Park is getting a nearly $500,000 upgrade.

The Kilgore City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a $473,921 bid for high-mast lighting installation at Driller Park.

“Lighting is always your most expensive portion of any field, so it is a substantial investment,” Public Works Director Seth Sorenson said.

Winning bidder, Musco Lighting of Kilgore, specializes in sports complex lighting. The contract is backed with a 25-year warranty that includes maintenance, labor and materials until summer 2039, according to Sorenson.

“Musco was quite a bit lower to supply the poles, and come in and install them as well,” he said. “This includes the structural engineering, foundation for the poles as well as uprighting the poles, but it will still be our responsibility to come in and do the electrical work back to the breaker box.”

The other bid from Techline Sports would have cost the city an additional $125,079 compared to the approved amount.
