Kilgore man saw JFK limo on way to hospital
Kilgore — Sixteen-year-old Gerald Stanglin stood in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963, watching in awe as President John F. Kennedy’s plane landed at Love Field.
He watched as the door marked with the presidential seal opened, revealing a regal Kennedy alongside his wife, Jacqueline, dressed in her iconic pink, navy blue-trimmed wool suit.
“I will never forget the color of his hair with the sun on it,” Stanglin said, adding that he had heard people describe Kennedy’s hair as golden. “Really, it was an amber color in the sun. It was very striking.”
In that moment, Stanglin had no idea that the day he got a zero in American history for being absent was about to turn into a day that would make the history books.
