Kilgore residents no longer have to visit their local library to check out a book, and pretty soon people in Longview won’t have to either.

The Kilgore Public Library opened Little Free Libraries earlier this month in four of the city’s five parks. Little Free Libraries are boxes full of books where anyone can borrow a book or two, read it and return it or a different one. There are no due dates, no fines and no library cards required.

“I think it’s awesome,” Kilgore resident Cindy Vickers said. “We can go to the park, it’s free and there’s books.”

Vickers visits Harris Street Park with her grandson once a week and said the Little Free Library at it has helped “kill two birds with one stone.”
