Longview — A Longview ISD teacher confiscated a handgun Tuesday afternoon from a kindergarten student at South Ward Elementary School, district officials said.

One Longview ISD resident with two children at South Ward said she was frightened upon finding out about the incident because of the recent shootings in Connecticut.

“I thought that was going to happen here,” said Maribel Cadenas, who has a kindergartner and a fourth-grader at the school.
