Laneville basketball: A family tradition
Laneville, Tx (KETK) — The East Texas area will be well represented in Austin this week at the UIL State basketball tournament.
One of those teams will be the Laneville Yellowjackets, and although the district is one of the smallest in the area, their basketball program is one of the best.
They have the tournament ten times, and won the championship three times, with the latest coming in 2008.
Many players on the team have relatives who were on some of those championship teams, and say they are looking to add to the family tradition.
Head coach Hosea Lee says he likes to keep his guys loose, and says they also benefit from being a smaller school since they don't have a football program.
"I've got these kids year round, so we're in the gym year round, and I don't have to tell them to get in the gym. They love the game of basketball and most importantly, they respect the game. That goes a long way," said Lee.
The Jackets will take on Cumby Miller Grove Friday night at seven at the Erwin Center in Austin.
Tatum and Grapeland will be joining them in the tournament as well.
