TYLER — Actor Larry Hagman has lost his battle with cancer.

He originally played opposite Barbara Eden in "I Dream of Jeannie" and went on to play the iconic J.R. Ewing on "Dallas."

The 'who shot J.R.' episode of Dallas is still the second-most watched TV series episode in the history of television.

Only the series finale of "M*A*S*H" ranks higher.

This year, he starred in Season one of the next generation of Dallas on TNT with some of his original co-stars.

Season two will still premiere in January.

Hagman was just here at the Cowan Center at UT Tyler a few weeks ago.

Hagman was 81.
