It has been a long race for Sheriff of Smith County, and Tuesday they reached the finish line.
The original roster of 4 candidates was whittled down to two.
Former ATFE agent Larry Smith and former Smith County Game Warden Chris Green have been going at it hammer and tongs for months now.
There was a seemingly endless parade of debates, both in the primary and the runoff.
There have been dueling endorsements and accusations.
It’s the Tea Party versus Grassroots America, and charges of underhanded tactics have flown from both sides.
And both sides have raised prodigious amounts of money.
But Larry Smith has emerged the winner by a healthy margin, 53% to 47%.
Smith County hasn’t seen this kind of race for awhile now, but then again, retiring Sheriff J.B. Smith has been the incumbent for 35 years.
