Lawmakers decline pay during federal shutdown

Congressional representatives from East Texas and the state say they will not accept pay while the government is shut down — and while thousands of federal employees are being furloughed.

They join dozens of other U.S. senators and representatives who say they will either refuse or donate their salaries as the two houses of Congress seek an answer to government gridlock.

U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Tyler, had not issued a statement as of late Thursday on plans for his paycheck during the shutdown. He was not able to be reached for comment Thursday.
