This weekend, young boxers from across Texas, as well as Oklahoma, Louisiana and Mississippi competed in the East Texas rumble in Longview, and part of the proceeds will support a local VFW post.

Fighters and coaches tell KETK,  it's just another chance to compete, but it was also a chance to learn from other gyms from across the area, and to see how fighters from across state lines would fair against one another.

The bouts were held at VFW post 4002 starting on Saturday, and running through Sunday night.

Organizers tell KETK that East Texas is a prime place for events such as this, because it is right in the middle of Louisiana, Oklahoma, and the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Fights consisted of boxers as young as eight, up to 34-years old.

Organizers tell KETK that the response has been overwhelming, with some teams having to be turned away because they already had enough competing, and the fan support here in East Texas has been off-the charts.
