Food insecurity in East Texas

TYLER-- The East Texas Food Bank is trying to lower a sad Texas statistics right now Texas has the second highest rate of child food insecurity.

Food insecurity means a person does not know where their next meal is coming from.

Today the Beaumont Foundation gave the food bank a 30 thousand dollar grant.

The money will be used to expand the food banks after school nutrition program called Kids Cafe.

The Executive Director of the East Texas Food Bank said these types of donations are very critical right now.

Executive director of the food bank Robert Bush says, "food donations are actually down by 1.4 million pounds, so donations like this are critical for use because we are trying to make up that gap of decrease food donations through other sources both locally and some of the resources the foundation has given us."

Bush says currently there is over one hundred thousand people in East Texas living in poverty he says this donation will help make sure more people will go to bed with something in their stomachs.
