Sheila Herring is one of the many teachers at Lindale's school district who keeps a personal refrigerator in her classroom, but come next year she'll have to give it up.
"It will be a little bit of a sacrifice...yes...but you know...you have to do what you have to do," said Herrings.
Last September a new law passed requiring Texas school districts to reduce their energy consumption 5% each year for the next 6 years. Lindale's school district has now developed a new plan to do just that.
"With the rising cost of energy bills and stuff...we're just doing to have to do a better job using less electricity," said Superintendent Stan Surratt.
The district will spent about 520,000 dollars this year in their energy bill. If they reduce 5% of their energy use each year it'll be a $25,000 a year saving.
"So it makes a lot of sense that we reduced every dollar amount we can," said Surratt.
Part of the plan is inspections will be made to make sure lights are turned off when their not be being used and small appliances, such as microwaves and refrigerators in teacher's classrooms will no longer be allowed.
"It's a little bit of an inconvenience, but you know we all understand about saving electricity," said Herrings.
