LeTourneau University was approved Friday by the Texas Board of Nursing to begin offering a Bachelor of Science in nursing degree beginning in the fall, President Dale Lunsford announced.

The university has been renovating its former student center to house the nursing program since the Anna Lee and Sidney Allen Family Student Center opened in mid-March.

The new program, which will be offered at LeTourneau’s main campus in Longview, is pending approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the southern states.

“LeTourneau University has built an esteemed reputation for excellence in our science and technical academic programs,” Lunsford said. “The addition of nursing will further advance our STEM programs and give students the opportunity to learn nursing practice in a Christian context. It’s a great day for LeTourneau University and for the quality of health care in East Texas.”
