LeTourneau students to compete in bike engineering challenge
Longview — LeTourneau University freshman mechanical engineering student Cody Beaman grew up building bicycles in his hometown of Katy.
“I have always enjoyed building bikes,” he said. “My family and I would buy bikes from Goodwill and rebuild them. This is what I’m doing engineering for. I love building and fabricating.”
In January, Beaman and other LeTourneau University engineering students were challenged by assistant engineering professor Jesse French to build recumbent bicycles, which allow a rider to sit in less of an upright position. This type of bicycle also helps a rider go faster using a third of the energy required to peddle a traditional bike.
