Nathan Lindholm and his four-person team of freshmen engineers saw the culmination of two weeks of hard work come to fruition Wednesday, as the team tested the strength of a 20-foot cantilever bridge the students designed as the final project of their Intro to Civil Engineering class.

“This project gives us a good idea about what the engineering process is in building a bridge,” Lindholm said. “Not many freshmen get to design a 20-foot bridge for their freshmen engineering class.”

The engineering class, consisting of 17 students, divided into four teams and built four bridges.

David Dittenber, assistant professor of civil engineering at LeTourneau University, said the 2013-14 school year marked the first time in which freshmen civil engineering students were given the opportunity for such an assignment.
